With the introduction of IP cameras on to the ViconNet VMS platform there are 2 places where the Camera name can be changed. One is in the Camera itself (Device Name) and the other is in ViconNet (Camera Name). Ideally it is best to set the Device name FIRST before adding the camera to ViconNet or any changes will not be seen in ViconNet.
This is how the Camera and Device Names are seen in ViconNet
The Device name can be accessed by web browsing to the camera menu and is normally found in the network settings of the camera but this can vary from model to model. Here is a Vicon V2005D camera.
Changing the Device name of a Camera
The Camera name can be changed within ViconNet Open Standard Cameras settings at anytime without any problems.
Changing the ViconNet Camera Name
If the Device name is changed AFTER the cameras have been added to ViconNet then no changes will be seen in ViconNet. If the camera is newly added, simply remove and re-add to the ViconNet system. However if the camera is added to groups or recording management then these will have to be reconfigured if the camera is removed/re-added.
Alternatively competent PC technicians can try the following. On each ViconNet PC you will find a folder:
C:\ViconNet\VNData\Cache
You can safely delete the Cache folder only and ViconNet will revalidate the camera credentials when restarted including the new camera name. This will need to be done on every ViconNet unit in the system.
