When you add an IQeye camera to your system, ViconNet tries to set the camera up with 2 streams. One primary high-resolution stream, for full screen live view, and high quality recording. Then a secondary low-resolution stream, for live view in a multi-tile thumbnail layout, and low resolution recording.
When the camera is only offering one single high-resolution stream, ViconNet will use that for all purposes.
So even a thumbnail live view in will use the high-resolution stream (Quality 1) and recording will always take place in high quality (Quality 1)
So for example, if your camera has the following stream configuration, it will only use the high-resolution stream:
- Quality 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 (all qualities) will represent the high-resolution stream.
When this single stream if of a high resolution and framerate, it will take a lot of bandwidth and storage
If you want to be able to also use the low-resolution stream (in order to preserve bandwidth and storage) you need to configure a secondary stream.
If you set the camera to the following stream configuration before adding it to ViconNet, with the following stream configuration, for example, ViconNet now will add the camera with two streams. That means that ViconNet can now differentiate between high- and low quality for live view and recording.
- Quality 1, 2 , 3, and 4 will represent the high-resolution stream.
- Quality 5, 6 , 7, and 8 will represent the low-resolution stream
Note:
Most IQeye cameras, with the most recent firmware, and when added in ViconNet 7.1 or later can use 'Vicon presets'
That means that ViconNet sends a command to the camera, that automatically configures the camera to a preferred stream configuration with a high-resolution stream, and a low-resolution stream, provided the camera is in a 'factory default' configuration.
If the camera streams have been altered from the 'factory default' configuration, the Vicon presets command will have no effect.
You can manually apply the 'Vicon presets' command to the IQeye camera by taking the following URL in your browser.
http://x.x.x.x/set.oid?OidTB2.40.17=1
(Replace x.x.x.x with the IP address of your camera, a password will be requested.)
Note. The IQ8712 cameras currently does not have the 'Vicon presets' OID.
